Louis Vuitton Monogramouflage Bag

I don’t know if this is an official image or not but it does appear to be a Louis Vuitton handbag in the the new and eccentric Monogramouflage print designed by Takashi Murakami.
According to Fashioniseme.com who cites Karen Kooper.com as its source, this will be an upcoming Monogramouflage handbag although I don’t know which one since I’ve never seen that style before. Keeping true to the image of camouflage wear and ‘jungle’ backdrops, this bag has a almost a no-structure shape, seems light to hold, looks like its made out of mostly cloth, and has a few luxury accents like some vachetta here and there.

Actually, a quick perusal through Google showed some very similar shapes and styles in the vein of camouflage handbags, such as this bag on creativestitchery-gifts.com:

Louis Vuitton new line Camouflage Monoflage Monogramouflage?

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Louis Vuitton is preparing for a major launch of a new accessory line, Fashion Week Daily has learned. Monogramouflage, as it is expected to be called, will combine the iconic French brand’s monogram canvas with a new camouflage print designed by Takashi Murakami and Marc Jacobs. Vuitton brass will unveil the new collection on June 1 at a pop-up shop that will open at the Brooklyn Museum of Art (similar to the one at the MOCA in Los Angeles), following the ”Brooklyn Ball” gala on April 3 heralding the East Coast Murakami retrospective. The products will then be sold at Vuitton stores worldwide starting June 15. Vuitton is a sponsor of the event (which is said to feature a performance by Jay-Z), and sales from the special museum store that night will benefit the Federal Enforcement Homeland Security Foundation. The Murakami exhibit will be open to the public from April 5 to July 3.

Luxury the New McDonald’s by Dana Thomas

Luxury the New McDonalds

Dana Thomas is stuffing envelopes with copies of Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Lustre and writing notes to go with them. What to say to Bernard Arnault, chairman of Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, one of the world’s biggest producers of luxury goods? “Oh, I dunno. ‘I hope you enjoy my book’,” she says. Arnault will have a fit.

The French mogul is fingered as a fiendish money-making former property developer with no artistic sensibility and Louis Vuitton is characterised as the McDonald’s of the luxury industry. “A million served,” says Thomas drily. The logo is as recognisable as the golden arches. “It really is. I would certainly put it in the top 10, along with Nike, Coca-Cola.”

That actually could be music to Arnault’s ears. It means Louis Vuitton is selling stupendously and making pots of money for the tycoon and his shareholders. But, for devotees, the message is devastating. It means the famous logo no longer has the cachet it once had. It still costs an arm and a leg, yet those buying are not the aristocratic clients who coveted craftsmanship and exclusivity. Instead, they’re the new luxury-obsessed middleclass consumers addicted to brands, not for quality, but for what they represent. And now they don’t even have that…

Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Lustre, by Dana Thomas, is published by Allen Lane, $32.95.
